Expected benefits
This unit provides the knowledge, skills and attitude to identify the different soil types on a participates property by physical inspection and plant observation. Conduct a physical and biological soil assessment with the aid of a checklist in order to assess the soil recourse in comparison to that of a predefined benchmark.

Outline of Activities
To achieve the above desired outcomes a participant will identify changes in soil types by physical inspection and plant observation. Identify the most appropriate place from which to take soil assessment. Identify and explain the interrelatedness of the chemical, physical and biological components of soil. Describe the structure of the topsoil and how this differs from the potential subsoil in a given soil profile. Complete as physical and biological soil assessment using a checklist.
